Why Another Yoga Studio in Barcelona?!!

People keep asking me… “Why are you opening another yoga studio in Barcelona?”

It is honestly a legitimate question. Glow is by no means one of the first studios to open in this beautiful city. It is a risky and scary endeavor. But then I think of my friends who have opened very successful businesses in the city. I remember people (myself probably included) asking them “Are you sure you want to open another restaurant in this city? It is already so saturated!”. And then I remember why they stay open while others close, what made their projects a beautiful success, elements of success that I think this studio shares.

  • A business that’s created with love is like a child. You love it unconditionally. I’m not looking to be an entrepreneur, I’m simply looking to live in harmony, working really hard, but in an industry (for a lack of a better word) that I love.

  • A business where you admire your staff becomes your extended family. After going through my yoga teacher training I realized that if I wanted to work teaching, passing on my legacy, it would have had to be part time. I’m a single mother and cannot afford to take a pay cut, pragmatics are pragmatics. And then it occurred to me that so many of the beautiful teachers who have been helping me on my yogic path for the past 15 years or so may not have the same privilege I do, having a wonderful backup job.

The sad truth is that most studios don’t take good enough care of their teachers. And that’s something that’s simply not okay. Yoga teachers tend to be brilliant, giving, selfless people who extend themselves to make their students happy, often at the expense of their personal lives. They train hard, they teach passionately, and they expect very little back. We should take care of those who take care of us.

  • Lastly, a business that you want to spend all of your time in becomes a second home. The lines between work and home are blurred. The studio I am creating is an extension of my soul, full of lush plants, moreish aromas, and oodles and oodles of creativity, acceptance and love.

Our yoga classes in English are led by bilingual yogis, so don’t be turned off if English isn’t your mother tongue.

I truly hope you come check it out when we open. The teachers I am slowly earning the privilege of calling my new family are beautiful people… I can’t believe the luck I’ve had finding them and convincing them to be a part of my life. This project, so unconditionally loved, will succeed. I sincerely hope you become a part of that success.
